Salvation Army officers (commonly known as soldiers) are appointed by God to spread His word and assist those in need. Though not employees of The Salvation Army, soldiers do sign a covenant agreement with their organization, which provides housing, furnishings and official vehicles as well as daily allowance. Furthermore, those leaving service prior to retirement age receive a termination grant of PS1,378 that can assist with temporary living expenses.

Commissioner Jolene Hodder is a sixth-generation Salvationist serving as National Secretary for Programs at The Salvation Army and overseeing an array of operations nationwide, such as evangelism, church growth, youth character-building programs and women’s ministries. As well as her administrative responsibilities she sits on both She Leads America and Just Serve leadership councils – for both of these events she holds both bachelor’s degrees – California State University in Los Angeles for sociology and Trevecca Nazarene University for religion respectively.

One of the easiest and most impactful ways to support The Salvation Army is with a planned gift. These kinds of donations may take many forms, from charitable trusts and real estate investments, through life insurance policies and stock/mutual fund investments to personal property and other assets – making significant gifts while deferring taxes for your heirs while leaving a lasting legacy for The Salvation Army.

Planned giving has many advantages, with perhaps the greatest being providing yourself and/or your heirs with an income stream in exchange for supporting The Salvation Army’s mission. Additionally, planned giving may lower both income and estate taxes while relieving your heirs of complex financial management responsibilities. To determine the most advantageous type of planned gift for yourself and your heirs, it’s best to speak to an experienced advisor. We welcome the opportunity to work together. An appreciated property such as your home, undeveloped land or farmland can bring significant tax advantages for donors. They can avoid capital gains tax and claim a charitable income tax deduction equal to its fair market value at the time of donation. Furthermore, donors giving long-term appreciated investments such as stocks and mutual funds to The Salvation Army’s Endowment Fund could qualify for immediate tax deductions.
