Credit Union Estatement

Established in 2008, Self-Help Federal Credit Union has quickly grown to provide access to ownership and economic opportunity to over 100,000 members through 38 branches nationwide. By working closely with communities who have historically experienced systemic barriers to financial inclusion, the credit union has developed a renowned reputation for integrity, excellence, and innovation in financial services delivery.

Self-Help Federal is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization chartered by Congress to provide loans and financial services to working families. Along with loans, Self-Help Federal offers free checking/saving accounts/share certificates/IRAs/community development designated branches which partner with low income individuals/families/communities to grow assets and build wealth.

The National Credit Union Administration is an independent federal agency responsible for insuring deposits at federally insured credit unions, protecting members who own them, chartering and regulating federally insured credit unions, as well as chartering and regulating them. Its Board of Directors are appointed by the President and approved by both houses of Congress; with headquarters located in Alexandria Virginia; an asset management and liquidation center in Austin Texas and three regional offices providing supervision and examination programs. Their funds are backed by full faith and credit of the United States Government.
